Biography
The full professor Margarida Casal took office as president of the School of Sciences of the University of Minho (ECUM). The investiture ceremony was attended by the rector António M.Cunha and was held in the ECUM amphitheater on the Gualtar campus in Braga. For the triennium 2016/2019, Margarida Casal will have as vice presidents Professors Nuno Peres, José Brilha and António MaurÃcio Fonseca. Margarida Casal graduated in Biology at the University of Lisbon and has a doctorate in Sciences at UMinho, where she has been a professor since 1986. She is a director of the Center for Molecular and Environmental Biology at UMinho, vice-president of the Portuguese Society of Genetics and coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Applied and Environmental Microbiology, of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Over the past few years, he co-founded the NanoDelivery spin-off, took over the direction of the Department of Biology, was responsible for creating master's degrees in Applied Biochemistry and Biophysics and Bionanossistemas, attended 20 postgraduate courses and developed scientific internships , such as INRA (National Institute for Agronomic Research, France), the Institute for Molecular Biology of Plants (CNRS) and the Biomedical Research Institute of Madrid (Spain). She is a co-author of 9 patents, 8 book chapters and 102 publications in leading journals.
